Abortion in Georgia is nearly impossible to get, as most women may not realize they are pregnant at the six week mark. The heartbeat statute has always been an overreach, since science tells us that those electrical impulses do not go to a brain with which to receive signals that it is in pain. But far too many argue that a soul is being destroyed when an abortion occurs, and I'll leave that to you to decide if that's a true statement.
There is a story happening right now that should revulse people and show the lengths that doctors must go to to retrieve a baby from its mother's womb to survive on its own. You see, the pregnant woman is brain dead, and they have to keep her "alive" to get a fetus inside her to term. The disrespect to this family must be incalculable, watching their loved one have to stay on life support because there's something in her that's more important than her by law. The fetus is at about 22 weeks and the plan is to induce in about ten more. There is an additional tragedy in all of this: the fetus has a brain disorder and isn't likely to survive for very long after birth. So we all have to watch this, horrified because Georgia law gives fetuses personhood status, and to hell with the family's agony.
